“Christmas Greetings from The Presidents” Makes a Great Gift
Christmas Greetings from the Presidents Summary
Every Christmas since Calvin Coolidge in 1927, the President of the United States has delivered a holiday message to the American people. Gathered in this volume are selections from those messages. And each includes a brief glimpse into the history unfolding at that time. For example, what FDR said during Christmas 1941 is made even more poignant knowing that the attack on Pearl Harbor had just happened. Likewise, one of President Reagan’s Christmas messages is even more impressive knowing that the Iron Curtain was about to come down. These little-known messages are filled with the spirit of Christmas and remind us that patriotism has a place in our holiday celebrations.
Christmas Greetings from the Presidents Review
Christmas Greetings from the Presidents is just the book to check off several spots on your Christmas list this year. Whether you have a fan of Christmas, American history or politics on your gift-giving list, they are all sure to enjoy this short collection of presidential Christmas messages. From Calvin Coolidge to Barack Obama, at least one of each president’s Christmas messages to the American people and to the world is included. Each Christmas message is prefaced with a historical note to give some context to the message and the era. Each is illustrated with presidential photographs of the time, along with anecdotes that help give a sense of history to each message.
In addition to being a lover of history and politics, I also collect Christmas books, and I happily added this one to my collection. You can easily through the whole book at once (not a challenge at just shy of 90 pages). Or you can choose to read one of the 17 messages each day as part of your holiday preparations. Either way, Christmas Greetings from the Presidents is an interesting look into one segment of our American history that is often overlooked.
Christmas Greetings from the Presidents is available in Hardcover or Kindle edition (I definitely recommend the hardcover) from amazon.com here or from your favorite booksellers.
