He is Risen–A Musical Celebration of Easter
Just in time for Easter, the Mormon Tabernacle Choir and the Orchestra at Temple Square have released a beautiful tribute to the Savior.
He is Risen is not a lengthy album, but each piece is a loving and beautiful tribute to the joy and beauty of Easter. These (mostly) traditional Christian hymns are beautifully arranged and beautifully performed by the choir and orchestra. From the sweet children’s hymn “Jesus Has Risen” to the majestic “Worthy is the Lamb That Was Slain” from Handel’s Messiah (no, it’s not just a Christmas piece), this album is the perfect accompaniment to your Easter worship.
But you don’t need to wait for Easter to enjoy this. This music will speak peace and joy to your soul at any time of year. Since I spend a lot of time on the road, the first time I listened was in my car. The peaceful, joyful nature of the music changed the entire tone of my morning. I’ve listened to it several times since then, enjoying the beautiful blending of instrument and voice.
Being an instrumental musician, I especially love the way that the orchestra is not merely an accompaniment to the choir, but a partner in the creation of each piece. The brass fanfare introduction to “He is Risen,” rounded out with the full organ sound gives the song the roayal and majestic sound so appropriate to its important message.
And while I have heard the Messiah performed in its entirety on a number of occasions, I, too, never realized what a beautiful Easter message it contained as well as the traditional Christmas pieces.
A copy of this CD was provided to me for review and my opinions are always just mine.
