Voyage of Discovery

After many years of wanting, I finally made it to Carlsbad Caverns.  I have never been anywhere more surreal and amazing in my life.

I can’t wait to go back again. Not only was the scenery incredible and the photography fulfilling, but it gave me a new perspective and made me think, from my first steps down the gash in the ground through which you enter the caverns all the way through the miles of otherworldly formations, the mist, the darkness and the dampness and the realization that I was in a place like no other.  What an amazing experience.

What voyages of discovery are you embarking on?  I’d love to know what adventures you have in store.

I just love caverns, I went to the Kartchner Caverns in AZ a few years back with my sons. Just breathtaking. I remember as a kid going to some in NH and Virgina. One of nature’s wonders.

I do, too, Lisa. We recently visited Wind Cave and Kartchner has long been on my list. We’ve also visited Timpanogos Cave which is smaller but still beautiful.

We took the girls there last year. It was amazing. I loved it and so did the kids. We also got to see the bats fly in the evening and it was pretty amazing.

We were there about two weeks too early for the bats. I’d really like to go back and see that. My family took me for Mother’s Day last year. My only regret (other than not getting to see the bats) is that we didn’t get to go until we were moving away from New Mexico. I wish we could have gone earlier and gone more than once.
